Ruby engagement rings while not traditional have been around for centuries. This is because of the folklore that surrounds this precious stone. The sayings go as that the wearer of the gem stone will be wise and protected from misfortune while receiving luck when it comes to love. This in part could be the reason that the ruby is known as the “king of the gems” in the language of Sanskrit.
This precious stone is from the red corundum family of minerals. While not as hard as a diamond, it does rate a 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Because of its popularity, this stone can be found in many different styles of settings. This includes Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Retro.
There is some variation to the color of a ruby. While red is the most popular and most common, there are those that have a purplish gleam to them. If this is the kind you want, you could not go wrong for it would be unique. Some that present this ring say it is like finding a gem in a raspberry patch and use that comparison when referring to their sweetheart. A better saying would be a rose among the thrones.
Ruby engagement rings can be set as a solitaire but usually are set with several baguette diamonds to help being out the luster and charm. Many of the ring setting make use of filigree to give it that old world charm and elegance.
The ruby can be cut in most any way you would wish. While round is common, so is square and rectangular. Oval, marquee and even heart shape can add a personal touch to make your ring a one of a kind, just like your love. The ruby engagement rings are an eye catcher at any event where they are worn.
